Another Project Finished! Maverick 88 12 gauge

This one has been in the works for a LONG time. Over a year or so ago I picked up a gently used Maverick 88. It was basically used. I wanted to order the ATI tactical stock, heatshield, and shell holder along time ago. Time and time again I was going to order them but something always came up. Well I finally did it. Here is the finished product. Will be a very nice home defense option. Mounted a surefire g2 on there for nightime encounters.

Mosin Project Finished!

Well me, Justin , and Britton installed the ATI mount tonight down at Justin's work. Justin manned the drill press and it was a pretty easy install. Installed the scope when I got home. Here's the finished product!

Here we go again! AR15 Project soon to begin

I've been wanting an AR15 for who knows how long but the cost was always to high to justify, both for the ammo and cost of the gun. Prices have dropped considerably in ammo. It's about the same to shoot as the AK. Complete AR's are still $700-900. However, you can "build your own" by buying a lower and upper reciever seperatley and pin them together and whala! you have an AR! This is suprisingly affordable. I think I've found enough good deal's to build a budget AR for around $500! Heck I paid that much for my Glock! I think I'm starting this soon. It will be a piece at a time but the end product will be the same or better as some of these $700-900 AR's out there. Savings some links so when I run across a good deal I can find it again!

Pistol Shooting Stance

I find myself using a weaver stance because that's what works best for me. I did find this article very informative even if it looks like the pics where taken in 1986!lol

Finished Sub2k and Mosin Bolt is back!

Got the Muellar holo-sight and it's dope! I think the sub2k is done for a while. Also got my bulldog smg case. The sub2k folds up well inside and has 4 mag pouches in the front!

I also got my bolt back from being bent on the Mosin. Looks really good and fits the ATI stock perfectly! I hope to drill andtap the scope mount this week so this project can be finished as well! The scope I ordered also came in and it looks nice and has nice clarity.

Mosin Project back on!

It was slightly sidetracked by the sub2k. Now that that project is 95% done, I am going back to the Mosin. I ordered the scope mount, scope and am in the process of getting the bent bolt. I need to hear back from the "boltman" first. I also ordered a Muellar Holographic sight for my sub2k. I was going to go with the Micro Dot but I've always wanted to try a holo sight and this one has good reviews. It also helped I got it at cost from a dealer on KTOG for "testing" out a new product. I'm excited to see how well it works. Anyhow the house is coming along nicely and is almost ready to move in! Once again I'll let the wife blog about that. I'm also excited for Day by Day Armageddon-Beyond Exile! It comes out today! I just finished reading the first book again last night. Probably my favorite zombie book ever. I am picking up my copy today after work.

Sub2k Project will begin shortly...

So I said I wouldn't move forward with this project until the Mosin was finished. Well the Mosin could technically be finished since it works just fine with my exisitng scout scope set up. Though after shooting it on friday I think I'm still going to go with the bent bolt sniper scope setup. Anyways, I ordered the quad rails for my sub2k, along with the Kel-Tec stock extension, and the tacticool solutions buffer tube cover and charging handle cover. I have some ideas so I thought if I don't put them here I may forget. I have the grip, flashlight, and laser I'm going to use, but I keep thinking about a red dot with a quick release mount so I can still fold the sub2k if neccessary. I think I've found the best solution. http://www.primaryarms.com/product.sc?productId=303&categoryId=5. Alot of AK and AR guys use these red dots. I got the idea from this picture over on KTOG. This should allow for co-witness of the rear and front sights but is easily removable in order to fold the sub2k.  Another option would be this mount http://www.opticsplanet.net/nc-star-ar-riser-and-quick-release-weaver-mount-marfq.html, with this reflex sight. A vendor on KTOG is offering a few lucky people to test it out. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Mueller_1x22x33_Holographic_Sight_MQS12233MB_p/mqs12233mb.htm. The cost is about the same so it will come down to preference really. The grip, light, and laser will also allow for this.  It may be awhile for this setup due to the new sectional and tv stand I got for the new house! Im sure the wife will blog about that so I'll leave it at that.
Some more pics that have "inspired" me for my sub2k.

Traded the Lever Action for my Kel Tec Sub2k

Well that didn't last long! Went into Doug's today to see what they would give me on trade for my Browning lever action I aquired in trade for my Hipoint. Ended up trading straight across. Since I had the gun on layaway it made sense, plus I saved on tax that way. Good deal all around. Really excited to start tinkering with the kel-tec. Just ordered 2 33 round mags and 2 17 round mags. Nice thing is I was able to sell my g19 mags so Im out like $10 max. Pretty good deal!

Lately I've been wondering if having a scope on my AK is kinda pointless. The iron sights suck though. There is some good alternatives out there. Krebs and Mojo make peep style rear sights. I'm used to those so I think I might end up selling the rail and scope and getting one. The question is which one. The krebs is the most expensive but the AK guys swear by them. The mojo is a good option as is alot cheaper. For what I do I'm leaning towards the mojo.

Mosin Project has begun!

It's officially  started! Got the ATI stock and Bi-Pod yesterday. Installed easily. Took me more time to get off that pesky barrel band! Everything else was a breeze. I really liked the way it turned out! Now I haft to decide if I want to go all out and get a scope, bent bolt, and receiver mount. I'm going to call my local gunsmith and see how much they would charge and way the options. For now here are some pics!

Mosin Project has begun!

Well we finally got our spot award card from work so I was able to order the stock and bipod. I am going to see how I like the Mosin in the Ati stock with the current scout scope set up I have now. I may decide to leave it alone or go all out and do the bent bolt, receiver mount, etc. Should be here this time next week!\

I did go ahead and try the shim under the barrel trick. I used a folded up business card. Heading to the range tomorrow to sight in my new AK scope so I will take the Mosin up and see if it helped accuracy at all. I am also going to sight the Mosin in at 25 yds. Oddly enough that "should" make it right on at 200 yds. I am eager to see if it's true or not.

Update! Been a While. New project in the works!

Wow haven't posted in a while. I decided to use this blog as a place to store information about gun projects I'm working on or "aspire" to work on. I've since sold the SKS, had got an AK which I love, and added a few pistols to the mix. A new S&W 22a1 and a Kel Tec p32. Anyhow. I bought a Mosin 91/30 last summer and had the idea of turning it into a sniper. I decided to add a scout scope mount which is a good set up. I've since had aspirations to go all out and get a ATI stock, mount, bent bolt.etc. I am using this to add some links for future reference and update my progress here.
http://www.angelfire.com/gundam/boltman/bolt_work/ $57
http://www.mosinnagant.net/Boltman/Boltman.html $55
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/mosin-nagant-replacement-stock.aspx?a=119809 $53.97
http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-5th-gen-4-16x50-full-size-a-o-range-estimating-mil-dot-sidewheel-red-green-il.html $95
http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-5th-gen-tf2-tactical-optics-3-12x40mm-range-estimating-rgb-illuminated-rifles.html$85
http://www.milsurpstuff.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MOI0600 $38
http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Combat-Profile-Adjustable-Rubberized/dp/B001WJ577O $23
http://www.mosin-nagant-scope-mount.com/#m91

Total Project-$250.

Floating the barrel. Can be done easy and cheap and "can" improve accuracy.

http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/edu63_2.htm

Similar project but on an m44
http://surplusrifle.com/carbinenagant/oddsandends3/index.asp

May have found a cheaper solution. Good ol sportsman's guide!
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cart/cart_view.asp?d=40466272&oKey=19711&oPromo=WX2&oColor=000&oSize=000$110 for mount, scope, and stock. Then add the boltman bolt for $55, $165 for the whole thing! $90 less than I'd thought. I may haft to move forward with this!

So for around $250 I can have an MOA(1inch at 100 yds) rifle. Some say " why not buy a modern Savage or Remington 700 and have  a much more accurate rifle. A Stevens 200 runs around $300 without scope. Both the scopes I'm thinking of would run another $100 so $400 or so. Not to mention the cost of ammo. 7.62x54r can be had for ALOT cheaper than comparable .308 or 30-06. Plus half the fun is in the project and making the rifle my own!

When it's finished it aught to look something like this.

Rimfire Caliber Trajectory

I found this graph very interesting. My buddy had just got a 10/22 and wondered what yds to zero the scope at. I told him the standard for .22 is 50 yds. After looking at this graph I was right on. This graph makes me want to get a .17hmr!

First time shooting the SKS

Took the SKS out tonight. What a blast to shoot! Forgot how much I like these guns. Iron sights at 50 yds. At first I was high, then low. Once I finally figured out the sights, I got some really good groups. The last 5-6 shots are grouped nicely. Overall I really pleased. Next time Ill try my luck at 100yds. Really want to get the tech-sight ts200 rear sight. I hear great things. http://www.tech-sights.com/

Latest Addition to the Family

Of guns that is! Yugoslavian SKS m59/66. I am just learning to read the markings on these rifles so I will haft to see what year is was manufactured. Got a greal deal of ksl.com. $300 for the gun and 500 rounds of wolf 7.62x39.  I had one of these a for about 4 years but recently sold it when I was unemployed. Regreted it ever since. That was one a Norinco SKS(Chinese) in a Monte Carlo stock with scope mount. One of the first guns I ever bought. This one came in a side folder stock, but luckily the owner had the orginal wood. Not in the best shape and missing the buttplate, cleaning kit, and screws. My plans for this rifle are either to restore it or sporterize it in a Tapco t6 stock, 20 rounds mags, etc. Right now I leaning toward restoring it but the stock is not the prettiest SKS stock I've seen. I may replace it with another yugo stock if I can find one.

First Post and Purpose Behind This

I have alot of hobbies. From video games, shooting and collecting firearms, sports, movies, books, etc. This blog will be dedicated to my thoughts on these subjects.  My wife has established a family blog so I figured why not. We'll see if I actually stay dedicated to this or not. Social networking has become a way of life. From Facebook, Blogger, Twitter, etc. I am not a part of all of these. They all serve their pretty much meaningless purpose I suppose. It is nice to see what people are up to. When you get married your life revolves around your family and you lose track of friends. These services help you keep up on old friends and find new ones based on similar interests.
